The last few months have been extraordinarily busy at York Place HQ. We have our first street exhibition “Human Traces: Cuba” coming up this week in association with Digitalab and Fujifilm and in September we’re staging our first Photography Masterclass “Documentary with Bite” in Newcastle and we’re so excited to meet the attendees and share what we have learnt over the last eleven years of York Place Studios. We are incredibly humbled by the response from photographers all over the world and we’re so excited to meet all those travelling to Newcastle from across the UK and abroad to hear our thoughts on taking street and documentary wedding photography to the next level!
One of the central topics of the Masterclass will be about controlling the composition to help you tell your story. Composition is everything to us and we love how the choices you make in the composition can give an entirely different tone and feel to an image as well as add a whole different dimension to the story being told.
Liz & James’ epic 2-day wedding / pool party in the beautiful Burgundy region of France at Chateau De Varenne had us in our absolute element, with so much activity and so many colourful characters alongside our gorgeous bride and groom that those compositional choices were key in capturing the incredible atmosphere, emotions, interactions and humour that underlined the whole weekend. A wedding is not just about the love between the bride and groom, it’s about the love and friendship between all their family and friends too and for us it’s essential to show the close relationships between people as a whole group throughout the day, not just when bundled together in formal group shots. These relationships were never more evident than at the laid-back pool party the day after the wedding and it was so much fun getting to know everyone over an amazing weekend in France.
Thanks so much to Lizzie & Jim for trusting us to do what we do; here are a selection of our favourite frames. – Dom & Liam
